今年78歲的終身義工孫越表示，他從16歲開始吸了人生的第一口菸，這一吸就是漫長的37年，後來因不想影響到他人，這一戒也已經快25年了，而兩年前為了參加「慢性阻塞性肺病防治記者會」，先至台大醫院由楊泮池院長檢查肺部，竟然發現了癌細胞，去年1月18日開刀將癌細胞割掉。癌細胞可以拿掉，但吸菸37年帶來的慢性阻塞性肺病卻依然纏著他，孫越說：「現在仍有時會覺得喘，沒想到吸菸的餘威仍在，戒菸實在戒得太晚！」孫越又強調，「從前走到哪兒，二手菸是免不了的，現在迎接無菸台灣的到來，請大家愛惜自己也尊重別人，還是把菸戒了吧！」
