我和朋友來到一個小咖啡館點了我們喜愛的咖啡。正當我們端著咖啡準備坐下時,又進來了兩位客人。他們徑直走到櫃檯前對服務員說:「五杯咖啡,兩杯給我們,三杯待用。(Suspended)」他們付了五杯的咖啡錢,端著兩杯咖啡走了。我問朋友:「什麼是待用咖啡?(Suspended Coffee)」「等一下你會明白的。」又有一些人進來,兩位女士各自要了一杯咖啡付過帳走了。隨後,有三位律師付了七杯咖啡的款,一人一杯,另有四杯待用。我帶著對待用咖啡的疑惑,欣賞著咖啡館前廣場上陽光明媚的冬色。這時,進來一位衣衫不整看上去像乞丐的老者,他輕聲的問服務員︰「請問現在有待用咖啡嗎?」這個其實很簡單,有人提前買了咖啡存在咖啡館,讓那些付不起咖啡款的人能夠享受一杯溫暖的咖啡。這個待用咖啡的傳統開始於義大利的Naples,現已傳遍全世界的各個地方。在有些地方,不僅可以買待用咖啡,而且可以買待用三明治或者一個晚餐。
